Ukiyo-e: pictures of the floating world is a series of intimate graphite drawings of cloud formations presented as triptychs. In continuous shades of silvery grey on stark white paper, a moment in the life of a cloud hangs suspended across the span taken to render each delicate three-image sequence. The choice to draw was deliberate; it allowed me to still the perpetual motion of clouds long enough to substantiate the infinite change that occurs within their slightest movement. A companion text in the form of a hanging scroll accompanies the triptychs, articulating discoveries made during the two years of daily drawing "meditations" encompassing this project.
